Southern Screen on the scene for 10 years

As the Southern Screen film festival celebrates its 10th year, November 12-15, 2020, it will go the way all festivals have during the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, and that’s going online.

In some ways, it seems a film festival is better suited going virtual in that viewing a film, even in a crowded theater, is still a solitary experience. For what that’s worth.

That said, Southern Screen Virtual Festival 2020 schedule is live.

Everything will be presented virtually this year, which is much different from years past, but will still bring audiences quality programming throughout the four-day event.

This year’s sessions include: discussions with Alex Borstein, actress (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel/Family Guy) + John Viener, writer (Family Guy); Rachel Dratch, actress (Saturday Night Live/Wine Country) + Dan Dratch, writer (Monk/The Cleveland Show) and Jay Wadley, composer (I’m Thinking of Ending Things) + Jennie Armon, music supervisor (Found Objects).

Screenings include opening night film, Intention, a documentary committed to intentional artistry, divine healers share their crafts within their Louisiana communities, while preserving cultural traditions; Farewell, Amor, about an Angolan woman and her daughter who reunite with her husband after spending 17 years in exile; and Stardust, a chronicle of a young David Bowie’s first visit to the U.S. in 1971 – a trip that inspired the invention of his iconic alter ego Ziggy Stardust.

All screenings and sessions will be viewed on the virtual platform www.eventive.org.
Full schedule can be found www.southernscreen.org/calendar.

Southern Screen is a non-competitive festival offering a platform for creative expression and exchange. Aside from films, the festival offers music, podcasts and educational workshops and panels.

This year’s virtual festival also features pass and ticket options. All pass and ticket information can be found on the Southern Screen website, www.southernscreen.org/attend
